What Oscars had to offer this time was an eventful shock and that everyone had a say for the same. Well, the most important person to be delighted by this blow away would definitely be Barry Jenkins, Moonlight Director who initially congratulated La La Land makers for winning the Best Film Award.
In the shortest span of two minutes, the speech was corrected and it was made back to Moonlight being the Best Film of the year for which he believed was a switchover between envelopes. He referred this tragic event as being “messy but kind of gorgeous.” He further explicated “You have these two groups of people who came together for a second. There’s a picture of me hugging Jordan Horowitz (producer of La La Land) and Adele Romanski (producer of Moonlight) has her arm on his shoulder. That’s what the moment was.” Further adding to this he said, “My first thought was to get to the stage to give Jordan a hug as quickly as possible.”
The mistake has been drawn to Brian Cullinan, who was to handle the envelope and that he was extremely busy live tweeting the event that he handed over the wrong envelope to Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway who were the presenters. Brian is the PricewaterhouseCoopers accountant and after this incident, he and his colleague Martha Ruiz are terminated from the Oscars from the coming year. Well, for some it was a great experience and sad for others.
